PROJECT STATUS
Thank you Seattle for making this acquisition possible.
This Pro Parks Levy project targeted funds to acquire land identified in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Plan for a new park.
Parks completed the purchase of the 17,145 square foot property at the northwest corner of 16th Avenue and East Howell Street. See (add development project link) for information related to the development of this new park on Capitol Hill.
Parks sponsored a public meeting on June 14, 2007 to confirm community support for the purchase of the property at the northwest corner of 16th Ave and East Howell St. The neighborhood was enthusiastically supportive. A meeting summary is provided below.
In February 2006, Parks sponsored a public meeting at which citizens suggested several potential sites for acquisition in the Capitol Hill area east of Broadway. Parks is continuing to pursue these potential sites as alternatives to the Group Health parking lots on 16th and 17th Avenues that were identified in the neighborhood plan. Parks was unable to reach agreement with Group Health for the parking lot sites.
Another Levy acquisition project targeted funds for acquisition in the western portion of the Capitol Hill urban center. In January 2007, Park purchased the 9,600 sf property at Summit Ave. E. and E. John St. for a new neighborhood park in the Capitol Hill area west of Broadway through that project.
