PROJECT STATUS

Thank you Seattle this project is complete!
Mayor Nickels, Tim Gallagher and Jim Ercolini along with the community celebrated this fabulous new play area at an opening celebration held on Saturday, July 12, 2008.

Seattle Parks and Recreation held three public meetings in 2007 to solicit public input for this park. The preferred concept plan features the open lawn, children's playground, pathways, plaza, benches, trees and shrubs as well as drainage and irrigation improvements. Parks also worked with SDOT and SPU to provide new sidewalks, new ADA ramps and new hydrant at the intersection.

The construction started in November 2007. The playground equipment was installed on April 26-27 by community volunteers with supervision from the playground company.

In 2005, Seattle Parks acquired property west of West Seattle Junction with funding from the first cycle of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund and matching grants from King County Conservation Futures Tax funds and the Washington State Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation.

Funding from the second cycle of the Opportunity Fund, the grant from State Interagency Committee and Neighborhood Matching Fund will provide park amenities and develop the site to serve as a neighborhood park.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

In the first cycle of the Pro Parks Opportunity Fund, West Seattle citizens nominated this property in a neighborhood that has many families and children, but is underserved in parks within walking distance. The site was purchased in 2005 through the first cycle of the Opportunity Fund.

The community successfully nominated the site for park development through the second cycle of the Pro Parks Opportunity Fund.

On July 15 and July 16, 2006, Parks staff attended the West Seattle Summer Fest and took comments on what citizens would like to see in their parks. See comments
