Mayor urges residents to support typhoon relief efforts
SEATTLE - Mayor Mike McGinn urged Seattle residents to support relief efforts in East Asia in the aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) that struck the Philippines, Taiwan, China and Vietnam this weekend. The City of Seattle has also launched a website that collects on one page useful resources related to typhoon recovery efforts, which can be found at http://www.seattle.gov/html/citizen/yolandarelief.htm.
"Many Seattle residents have family members and friends who now face hardship because of this disaster," said McGinn. "Now is the time for our community to come to their aid. I ask that residents give what they can to help meet the needs of those who are suffering in the wake of this tragedy."
The City of Seattle website includes links to help locate people missing as a result of the disaster, including Google Person Finder and the Philippine National Red Cross. It also includes donation links for several prominent relief organizations.
