Additional $100k available in facility grants for arts and cultural organizations with capital projects Information sessions on July 24 and Aug. 6; applications due Sept. 4

SEATTLE The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture will begin accepting project applications for the Cultural Facilities funding program, which supports Seattle-based arts, heritage, cultural and arts service organizations with capital projects on Monday, July 1. The program will award one-time funding to organizations with projects such as facility renovations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access projects or improvements to a historic property. The program anticipates funding several projects in the $5,000 to $10,000 range, and several in the $25,000 to $50,000 range. This year, funding for the program has been increased to $250,000, thanks to an additional $100,000 allocation from City Council, with the goal of strengthening Seattle's cultural square footage.

The Cultural Facilities program is intended to support capital projects that improve Seattle's arts spaces in significant and lasting ways for the benefit of all city residents. Projects should advance the organization's mission and strengthen Seattle's cultural scene. The majority of funding (a minimum of 50%) for the project must be in place before applying, and preference will be given to projects that demonstrate a broadly based funding plan. Projects must be able to take place and be completed between November 2013 and December 2014.

Applicants are encouraged to attend an information session to get details on the funding program requirements and how to prepare a competitive application. The Cultural Facilities Grant was launched last year, and funded 14 projects, including a new dance floor for Hengda Dance Academy, roof replacement for the James & Janie Washington Foundation, new theater seats for the Northwest Film Forum, and an ADA wheelchair lift for SouthEast Effective Development. A total of just over $155,000 was awarded to for facility projects with grant awards ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.
