Mayor Ed Murray bets Chihuly, bike, and ‘thrift-shop’ attire on Super Bowl
Mayor Ed Murray today placed a friendly wager on Sunday’s Super Bowl game with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.
“Yesterday was a great Sunday for Seattle, as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took home the most Grammy awards ever for a Seattle-based artist,” said Murray. “Next Sunday – Super Bowl Sunday –will be a great Sunday for Seattle too. We’re confident in our Seahawks – and as Mayor, I’m ready to put a little something on the line today.”
“All of Denver will be watching the Super Bowl this year, as it is certain to be one for the books,” said Mayor Hancock. “The Seahawks and their top-ranked defense will face our Broncos – the greatest, most high-powered offense to ever take the field. Given that matchup, I’m fairly confident that what I’m putting on the line isn’t going anywhere.”
Terms of the wager:
- If the Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl, Mayor Hancock would send Denver green chili, a ball cap, hoodie and handmade skis from Denver’s own Icelantic Skis. As part of a charity element, a Denver-themed item that will be auctioned to support the Lifelong AIDS Alliance and Mayor Hancock would wear a costume curated by the Lifelong AIDS Alliance thrift shop in the spirit of Macklemore’s Grammy-award-winning song.
- If the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl, Mayor Murray would send salmon and Dungeness crab, a road bike from Seattle’s Rodriguez Bicycles. For charity, a piece of blown glass art by Seattle’s own Dale Chihuly would be auctioned to support Denver’s Road Home, a ten year plan to end homelessness and Mayor Ed Murray would wear Bronco pajamas on PJ Day, February 6.
Murray was joined in a press conference today by Dale Chihuly, Dan Towle of Rodriguez Cycles and Ace Robinson of the Lifelong AIDS Alliance.
Murray also issued a proclamation to celebrate the team this week and for it to be declared Seahawks Blue Week. Seattle City Hall and Seattle City Council Chambers will be lit up in blue and green tonight.
