Mayor Ed Murray bets community service and sweets on Sunday's playoff game
SEATTLE - Mayor Ed Murray today, in a phone call with San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, placed a friendly wager on this Sunday's NFC title game with the Seahawks and the 49ers at CenturyLink Field. In the wager, the losing Mayor will assist the winning mayor in raising $10,000 for a food bank or meal program in the winning City. In addition, the losing Mayor will send a food donation to the winning City's food bank.
"We have every confidence in our team going into Sunday's game," said Murray. "We know too, that the 12th man will boost our players and make it very tough for our division rival 49ers to get in a win in Seattle. We can't say this enough, bring your earplugs."
"It was always going to come down to this - the two best teams in the NFC battling for a chance to play in the Super Bowl," said Lee. "We wouldn't have wanted it any other way. When the Niners raise that Lombardi Trophy in New York City next month, they will do so knowing that they'd made the trip up to Seattle and triumphed over their rivals from the North for the chance to play for that championship."
Terms of the Wager:
- If the Seattle Seahawks win the game, Mayor Lee would send Mitchell's Ice Cream and Poco Dolce Chocolates
- If the San Francisco 49ers win the game, Mayor Murray would send Molly Moon's Ice Cream and Theo Chocolate
Mayor Lee upped the ante and added a 1958 Bloody Mary Mix from Lefty O'Doul's Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in San Francisco.
"We actually don't have another item to add to that so we'll have to think about how we up it on that one," said Murray. "I'm sure your fans will need it after the game anyway."
The terms of the community service will be worked out after Sunday's game. Still picture and audio file attached.
