Seattle Park Board to hold regular meeting January 9
The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the Kenneth R. Bounds Park Board Room at 100 Dexter Ave. N, in Denny Park at the corner of Dexter and Denny. The meeting agenda includes:
Bicycle Use Policy. At the January 9, 2014 meeting Parks staff will brief the Commissioners about the criteria that will be used to select locations for mountain bike trails and potential locations for a pilot project. The Board of Park Commissioners has decided to postpone a change in policy until after a pilot project. Previously, the Park Board heard a briefing regarding the proposed changes to the Bicycle Use policy and held a public hearing. A draft and a redline version of the Bicycle Use Policy are available here: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkboard/default.asp.
Legacy Plan and Citizens’ Committee Update. Parks staff will update the Board of Park Commissioners on the work of the Parks Legacy Citizens’ Advisory Committee and on the progress to finalize the Parks Legacy Plan. The Draft Legacy Plan, published in June 2013, will be updated and a final version completed by mid-March. Information on the Plan is available here: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/legacy/. The Parks Legacy Citizens’ Advisory Committee, appointed by the Mayor and City Council in June 2013, issued an interim report which establishes initial priorities for a future parks funding ballot measure. More information available here: http://www.seattle.gov/parks/legacy/committee.htm
Park Legacy Oversight. A new parks funding measure, whether a renewal of the current parks levy or the creation of a metropolitan parks district (MPD), will include citizen oversight. The Board will be discussing various options for citizen oversight of the new ballot measure.
The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners is a nine-member citizen board created by the City Charter. Four members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; four members are appointed by the City Council; and one member is a young adult appointed by the YMCA Get Engaged Program (http://www.leadershiptomorrowseattle.org/YMCA.asp). Current members are Antoinette Angulo, Tom Tierney, Bob Edmiston, Jourdan Keith, Chair Diana Kincaid, Brice Maryman, Mazohra Thami, Yazmin Mehdi and Barbara Wright.
