Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute and Freshest Roots announce monthly open mic night
SEATTLE — Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute has announced a monthly open mic event with Freshest Roots, a local organization established to connect the community through music, art, and fashion. The monthly event, held on the first Friday of the month, is called Expresso and will generally be held at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, though the Aug. 2 event will be held at 6 p.m. at Judkins Park, 2150 South Norman Street, as part of Umoja Festival. Interested participants may sign up for open mic slots by visiting www.freshestroots.com.

At the Umoja Fest event, Expresso will help jumpstart a weekend full of art, music, and movement. Umoja Fest is free and all-ages. Freshest Roots has been partnering with Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute (LHPAI) for two years. The partnership promotes community and collaboration.

LHPAI celebrates, nurtures, presents, and preserves African American and Diaspora performing arts, cultural wealth and iconic legacies. Named for the prolific African American artist Langston Hughes, LHPAI represents the pluralism of local, national and global Black people, in the media platforms of film, dance, theatre and music.
