June 5 Civic Cocktail to focus on The Business of Politics
Mayor’s race, legislative session and business climate on the bill

Seattle – Seattle Channel’s newest program, Civic Cocktail, is a civic conversation with a twist. June’s theme is The Business of Politics. The program, presented in partnership with CityClub and Crosscut, will tape, Wednesday, June 5 at Tom Douglas’ Palace Ballroom, 2100 5th Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the program begins at 6 p.m.

The conversation will infuse the evolving race for mayor with talk about Seattle’s business climate. Throw in a splash from the state Legislature’s special session and see what shakes out.

June’s panelists include Rodney Tom, State Senate Majority Leader, D-Medina (session permitting); Howard Behar, vice chair of the Washington Business Alliance and former president of Starbucks International; Knute Berger, Crosscut columnist; and Michele Matassa Flores, managing editor of the Puget Sound Business Journal. Seattle Channel public affairs host Brian Callanan will moderate the discussion while the audience poses questions. Civic Cocktail is rebroadcast on Seattle Channel cable 21 and available online at

Registration is at or (206) 682-7395. Advance ticket prices are $10 for CityClub and Crosscut members and $12 for non-members. Tickets are $15 at the door. Admission includes appetizers and program. No-host bar available.

Civic Cocktail attendees can enjoy happy hour with friends, network and discuss the hot political issues of the day. A pilot program that launched in March, Civic Cocktail takes place the first Wednesday of the month. A post-show, short feedback session will invite attendees to offer input on the format, panelists and topics.
