Seattle Parks accepting applications for scholarship funding for youth programs

Seattle Parks and Recreation is increasing access to scholarships for teen programs with $40,000 from the 2013 Hope for Youth Fund.

Established sports and youth serving nonprofit organizations serving youth ages 11 to 19 can apply for scholarship funding for low-income youth. Funding will support outreach efforts to diverse communities to engage youth who may not have participated in the past because of a lack of money for participation fees.

This funding will also provide an opportunity for organizations to increase participation by youth from refugee/immigrant communities.

To apply for funding, please get an application from Patricia Young, or 206-233-7011, then complete and return it:

  • Electronically to or
  • By mail to Patricia Young, Seattle Parks and Recreation, 4209 W Marginal Way SW, Seattle, WA 98106.

Completed applications are due to Seattle Parks no later than 5 .m. Monday May 20, 2013. A panel of representatives from Parks, the Department of Neighborhoods and the community will rate the applications. Funding awards of up to $3,000 each will be announced by Thursday, May 30

If you have any questions, please call Rebecca Karlsen at 206-684-7279 or email her at

Other partners in Youth at work are the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County and the private sector. The goal is to increase the number of summer jobs, internships, and job shadow opportunities available for our young people.
