Funding available for Seattle arts and cultural organizations to support public access
Information sessions available on May 8 and May 20
SEATTLE — Seattle-based arts and cultural organizations are invited to apply for the city's Civic Partners funding program, administered by the Office of Arts & Culture. The program provides two-year funding commitments with allocations for 2014 and 2015. Funding is intended to promote a healthy and diverse arts and cultural community by increasing public access to arts opportunities. The online application is available at www.seattle.gov/arts and the deadline to apply is 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 12.
"Our city is rich with creativity and innovation," said Randy Engstrom, director of the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture. "The Civic Partners program allows us to support those organizations that make Seattle a city of creativity, while also providing opportunities to youth and others to experience this amazing resource."
In 2012, $1.6 million was awarded to 128 Seattle-based arts, heritage and cultural organizations and nine arts service organizations. The awards made it possible for these organizations to offer programs that engaged more than 19,500 volunteer and paid artists, serving an audience of over 1.2 million people, including nearly a quarter million students and youth, and providing over 600,000 free admissions.

eattle-based arts, cultural and heritage organizations of all sizes and disciplines with a minimum three-year history of continuous operation and programming and a not-for-profit business structure (does not have to have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status) are eligible to apply.
Civic Partner organizations include major institutions serving the entire region, established organizations serving a more specialized artistic or community niche, and many small or emerging organizations. The program aims to help sustain established organizations over time with reliable funding, while also recognizing and fostering emerging organizations. Civic Partner funding is awarded based on the entire organization, not just a single project.
The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs supports the health and vitality of our city by providing access to arts and culture, advancing the role of the arts in our community, and advocating for issues that affect the entire cultural community. The 16-member Seattle Arts Commission, citizen volunteers appointed by the mayor and City Council, supports the city agency.
