City of Seattle seeks feedback on mobile web site
New site optimized for mobile devices

SEATTLE - The City of Seattle is seeking public feedback on a new mobile-optimized version of the City's online services with the release of The mobile site takes advantage of technology available on mobile including geographic awareness and can be accessed on any iPhone, Android, or Windows phone or tablet.

"Our mobile site is intended to provide residents with more convenient access to core city services, especially during weather related emergencies," said Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn. "Take a look at the site and share your feedback and ideas to help us develop more mobile services."

The mobile site features easy bookmarking and includes the ability to quickly locate City services and events. The mobile-optimized site also includes:

  • Crime activity displayed by region
  • Power outage maps
  • Traffic & road conditions information with access to web camera video feeds and travel times
  • Snow plow maps (when snow plows are active)
  • News from the Mayor, Council Members and City Attorney
  • Seattle Channel Shorts, a series of daily web videos on a variety of Seattle topics
  • Live feeds from the Seattle Channel, including some news conferences and every City Council meeting

The mobile site will also feature important safety information when the Emergency Operations Center is actively responding to events in and around Seattle such as inclement weather.

"With the incredible growth in popularity of smart phones throughout Seattle's communities, it has become important that the City provide mobile users with optimized access to important resources that are available at," said Erin Devoto, acting Chief Technology Officer for the City. "We know people want increased information on the go and we are glad to start meeting the demand through the mobile site, especially during emergencies when residents may not have access tools."

Smartphone and tablet uses can access the new site by going to in their web browser and bookmarking it for future use. New mobile web services are under development, and the Department of Information Technology welcomes feedback on the site and ideas for additional features.
