Public Involvement

Ballard Commons Public Plaza

The Department of Neighborhoods is partnering with the Department of Planning and Development to talk with community groups about the City’s approach to Neighborhood Plan Status Reports and updating three Neighborhood Plans in Southeast Seattle.

As the City undertakes the plan updates, one of the guiding principles of the process will be inclusiveness. The planning process must engage a broad group of diverse stakeholders, including residents, business owners, employees, immigrants, all income levels, homeowners, renters, non-profits and civic organizations.

The Department of Neighborhoods is leading this outreach effort by identifying strategies for involving groups that may be hard-to-reach, or not typically involved in planning activities, to ensure that the plan update processes are broadly representative of the diverse members of Seattle’s neighborhoods.

A Neighborhood Plan Advisory Committee (NPAC) will play an active role in providing on-going guidance to the Executive and City Council on the development of the Neighborhood Plan Status Reports and Criteria for prioritization in the Neighborhood Plan Update Process.

For more on how to get involved email Sebhat Tenna at sebhat.tenna@seattle.gov or call (206) 733-9977.
