The City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods (DON) in support of Mayor Nickels' Youth Initiative is requesting applications to fund community-based projects that promote positive opportunities for youth in Rainier Beach and the Central District. The proposed projects must provide youth stipends, leadership development, community service, community organizing, and/or educational opportunities.

The Neighborhood Matching Fund
has approximately $190,000 to support community-based youth projects.
Each group may request up to $20,000.

Our goal is to create positive grassroots activities that:

  • Promote youth-led projects; developed and implemented by youth in Rainier Beach and Central District
  • Promote community collaborations
  • Provide new ways for engaging youth in their communities

Project Outcomes should include at least one of the following:

  • Improving the visibility of youth leaders in the community
  • Increasing youth involvement in neighborhood and community projects
  • Increasing opportunities to engage underserved/underrepresented youth

Eligible applicant groups must be in the Rainier Beach or Central District and be a:

  • Grassroots or community-based organization
  • Youth-led organization or student organization
  • Groups of people who come together for the purpose of undertaking a project

All projects must:

  • Be a pilot or start-up project (will not fund existing projects)
  • Focus on youth development, leadership, community organizing, and/or educational opportunities
  • Provide youth stipends Begin implementation June 30th Be completed within 6 months
  • Be proposed and led by a group of people (applications from individuals are not eligible)
  • Include community contributions including volunteer time and donations to match the requested dollars

Neighborhood Matching Fund Project Managers may assist you in:

  • Developing a project idea Understanding this funding opportunity and the application process
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on your application materials
  • Providing technical assistance throughout the implementation of the project
