Support for Business Districts - Only in Seattle Initiative

OED's Only in Seattle Initiative, our neighborhood business district program, promotes a healthy business environment for business organizations and neighborhood business districts.

Neighborhood business districts are where small businesses thrive, communities engage, and jobs are created. Successful small businesses are the key to creating and preserving vibrant, safe, sustainable districts and businesses are most successful when they are located in neighborhoods with an active street life and healthy sense of community.

This initiative is based on proven methodologies for creating vibrant business districts. Business districts benefit most from a comprehensive approach including work in the following strategy areas: business organization, business retail and development, safety and cleanliness, marketing and promotion, and appearance and pedestrian environment.

• Only in Seattle Initiative Funding (Annual Request for Proposal process)
• Only in Seattle Marketing Campaign - an ongoing, citywide marketing campaign featuring business districts throughout Seattle.
• Business Improvement Area Formation and Support - Business districts interested in learning about creating a BIA or revising an existing BIA, can work with experienced city staff and consultants to explore these possibilities.
• Technical Assistance Training and Support - Coordinated peer-to-peer learning sessions, organized trainings and one-on-one technical assistance for business district staff and volunteers.
• Business Advocacy and Farmers Market Support - Assistance and support for resolving city-related issues that your district or a business within your district is having.
• Create a Thriving Business District - A website that highlights tools and resources for improving Seattle business districts
