Energy Benchmarking Education and Training Support
How to GuideThe How to Guide includes the four steps to benchmark buildings using ENERGY STAR's Portfolio Manager including signing up for utilities' automated benchmarking services (if desired) and reporting to the city. Whether using an existing Portfolio Manager account or starting fresh, our guide can help owners and managers comply. Visit the How to Comply page to follow the guide online or download a PDF version. Visit the Deadlines and Enforcement page or review the Energy Benchmarking & Disclosure Director's Rule 6-2011 for the specific requirements for compliance with the ordinance. Free Training WorkshopsThe City of Seattle offers in person workshops and technical assistance. Sign-up for Email Updates (see right) to be notified of program updates and training opportunities. These hands-on computer-based workshops teach how to benchmark a building’s energy performance using the free on-line tool ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager. Participants learn about the ordinance reporting requirements and new automated benchmarking services from Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy and Seattle Steam. Participants can learn with sample data, or bring their own building data to get started. Visit the How to Comply page for the current schedule. Drop-In HelpDrop-in help is available each Wednesday from 11am – 1pm at the Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Avenue, 18th floor, Room 1880. Helpline – Phone & EmailTechnical support is available five days a week to assist you in benchmarking your building and complying with Seattle's new program. E-mail your questions or call the helpline directly. You will be responded to within 48 hours (2 business days).
Seattle Utility ContactsTo save owners and managers the effort of manually entering data each month, Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy and Seattle Steam offer a direct upload of a building’s summarized utility consumption data to Portfolio Manager. Step 3 of the How to Guide shows how to set this up. Since utilities have up to 60 days to upload utility data, we recommend starting to comply with the benchmarking program well before the deadlines. Contacts for utility-related questions:
