How Do You Get a Permit?

The permit process differs for each permit type, and may also vary depending on how complex your project is. These steps are a general guideline to follow to apply for a permit.


Start Permit Application

Submit Preliminary Application Materials

  • Submit required preliminary application materials:
    • Preliminary Application form with site plan
    • Pre-Application Site Visit Request form
  • Review your:
    • PASV Report
    • Preliminary Assessment Report
  • Determine which permit forms are required for your permit type

Submit Plans

Screen Application Materials

Bring your application materials to the Applicant Services Center and meet with our staff to make sure you have everything you need for a successful permit application intake. If you are a consistently prepared applicant (CPA) with a current rating of 80 percent or higher, this step is not required.

Schedule an Intake Appointment

You can schedule your intake appointment once your screening is approved and you have completed all required preliminary application steps.

Submit Your Permit Application

Submit your permit application materials and pay all fees due at this time.

Plan Review & Corrections

After your permit application, we review your plans. Our reviewers may ask for corrections to any errors they find in your application materials.

Get Permit

Pay any outstanding fees and receive approved plans and permit.
