What’s Happening Now?

Sound Transit received several responses to their request for qualifications for their property near the corner of Denny and Broadway that was issued in January. Subsequently, they released the list of development teams that they selected to respond to their request for proposals that will be released shortly. The selected teams presented their qualifications to the Capitol Hill community in early June. Over 300 people attended to hear from the teams. More information about the selected teams and the introductory event can be found at the Capitol Hill Champion’s website.

One of the sites will be an affordable housing development that will likely be funded in part by the Office of Housing. Other community priorities for the sites include space for the Broadway Farmers Market, cultural center space, neighborhood retail, a public plaza, and pedestrian and bicycle friendly streets and connections.

Sound Transit expects to select the final proposals by the end of the year, with the hope construction will start in 2016.

The End Result

The redevelopment of the Capitol Hill light rail station sites will be a model of transit-oriented development and create a new civic heart for the Capitol Hill community.
