We rely heavily on the advice of professionals and citizens to develop workable construction codes. The CCAB advises us on proposed code amendments and Director’s Rules related to technical codes by providing input based on the members’ professional experience and point of view. A CCAB subcommittee, the Innovation Advisory Committee, reviews energy efficient development proposals that are not covered by the technical codes.
CCAB is a 13-member voluntary board, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. It is given its authority by Seattle Building Code Section 105. It also serves as an advisory hearing body for appeals under Section 103.10.2 of the 2009 Seattle Building Code, Section 110.2 of the 2009 Seattle Mechanical Code, and Section 80.16 of the 2008 Seattle Electrical Code.
Each board member serves a three-year term. Because the code requires that the terms be staggered, we recruit new members every year to fill the positions being vacated.
Meetings are scheduled for the first and third Thursday of every month, as needed.
Each board member represents a specific profession or the general public. CCAB is comprised of the following positions:
In addition to these board positions, the Seattle Fire Department, Seattle City Light, and the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health are represented by ex officio, non-voting members of the board.
