Community Reporting Areas

Community Reporting Areas | Neighborhood Districts | Neighborhood Planning Areas | Urban Centers and Villages

Community Reporting Areas (CRAs) were adopted in 2004 as a standard, consistent, citywide geography for reporting purposes across all departments, as appropriate. There are 53 CRAs derived from census tract geography.

CRAs do not represent an attempt to identify neighborhood boundaries as defined by neighborhoods themselves. The CRA system gives the City a familiar system of common place names with a geography of suitable scale to represent neighborhood areas/conditions. It is reasonably stable over time, consistent with census geography, relatively easy to use in a data context, and respectful of neighborhood district geography. The CRA boundaries were created after reviewing numerous "neighborhood" geographies, including:

  • neighborhood planning areas (DON)
  • neighborhood districts (DON/CNC/Neighborhood District Councils)
  • city sectors/neighborhood plan implementation areas (DON)
  • urban centers/urban villages (DPD)
  • population sub-areas (DPD)
  • the Neighborhood Map Atlas (City Clerk)
  • various other geographic information sources related to neighborhood areas.

Below you will find the following maps and reports:

  • Map of all community reporting areas. The common place names denoted on this map are an alternative form of general identification and reference in place of the CRA numeric ID system.
  • Race/ethnicity reports for all CRAs
  • Subject reports for all CRAs
  • Individual CRA reports and maps

Race/Ethnicity Reports for All Community Reporting Areas
The Race/Ethnicity Report for all CRAs provides census 2000 findings for different race categories and Hispanic/Latino ethnicity (SF1). Please be aware that total population counts may not match the subject reports which are derived from a different census data set (SF3).
