Inspections

DPD's team of more than 50 construction inspectors visits all construction sites within the city to ensure compliance with building, energy, mechanical, environmental, drainage, erosion control, side sewer, electrical, elevator, boiler, refrigeration, sign and housing/zoning standards.

Inspections Overview
After your building permit is issued, a DPD inspector will check to make sure your work is done according to code. As a permit holder, you must call to arrange each inspection.

Check Inspection Status
You can view the status of your permit application or inspection online anytime by using our "Permit & Complaint Status" tool under the "Online Services" tab. A link to the tool is also available on the Permit homepage.

Requesting an Inspection
To schedule an inspection, use our online inspection request service. You may also call our 24-hour inspection request line at (206) 684-8900 before 7 a.m. on the day you need the inspection.

DPD Inspection Websites
DPD has setup a number of websites to match the type of project you are working on.

Site Development
If you are applying for a construction permit or planning for future construction that involves ground disturbance or tree or vegetation removal, advance inspection of your site by DPD's Site Development Team may be required.

Special Inspections
A list of registered special inspectors, as referenced in the Seattle Building Code, is available on the WABO Special Inspection Program website.
