Environmentally Critical Areas
Abandoned Landfills

Abandoned landfills are designated in Seattle Municipal Code Section 25.09.020.E.  These areas are regulated to prevent damage from methane gas buildup, subsidence, and earthquake induced ground shaking.  Additional soil engineering studies, methane barriers, and other construction or ventilation measures may be required in these areas to ensure that structures are designed to accommodate existing conditions.
