Residential Energy Code Forms

(Chapters 1-10, Group R occupancy only)

The Seattle Department of Planning and Development requires that certain forms be completed and submitted with the permit application. Through this website, electronic versions of working Excel spreadsheets are available to be downloaded. Users can then fill in the appropriate data (with calculations being done automatically), print out the completed form, and submit it with their application.

  • Equipment Sizing Form
  • Group R Occupancy Target UA Form

Click on the links below to download spreadsheets with electronic versions of the forms.  Make sure to set the macro protection to “medium” or less when you download the file in order to maintain the functionality of the spreadsheets.  (When the file is downloaded to a computer where the macro protection is set to “maximum”, the computer then disables the macros.)

Equipment Sizing Form
Application: (1) required to be attached to all building permit applications, and
(2) required to be submitted with all applications to install new or replacement heating equipment. (Code reference: Residential Energy Code, Section 503.2.)
Summary: Provides a simple form for calculating loads to size heating equipment. This form is tailored to the Seattle winter design temperature of 24 F (the 46 degree temperature difference used equals 70 F inside minus 24 F outside).

Group R Occupancy Target UA Form
Application: Optional, only necessary if the Target UA compliance option is used. (Code reference: Residential Energy Code, Section 502.2. See the Nonresidential Energy Code Forms page for other than Group R occupancy.)
Summary: Provides an alternate compliance option for projects which do not comply with the prescriptive requirements. (Note that this form requires the user to calculate both the Target Design and the Proposed Design.).

Nonresidential Energy Code forms
Summary: Contains title, description, and option to download electronic forms used for the nonresidential portions of the Energy Code (Chapters 11-15).
