Draft ordinances adopting the International Building, Residential,
Mechanical and Fuel Gas Codes* (I-Codes) with Seattle amendments
were delivered to the Mayor and City Council in May. These
drafts are available on DPD's Technical
Codes website.
The Council's Urban Development and Planning Committee is
tentatively scheduled to consider the ordinances on June 29
at 9:00 a.m. The Committee will take up the proposed Seattle
Energy Code and Seattle Fire Code at the same time. Check
the Committee
webpage for current information.
DPD anticipates the codes will take effect in early or mid
August with the City Council's approval and the Mayor's signature.
Any provision in these drafts and other provisions of the
codes could be changed before they take effect in Seattle.
For 60 days after the effective date, DPD will accept applications
designed to either the 1997 or the 2003 codes. We are accepting
applications designed to the 2003 codes before adoption, however,
applicants who wish to do so should call (206) 684-8850 for
a presubmittal conference.
Comments and questions on the draft amendments may be addressed

differences between the I-Codes and the Uniform
Building Code (UBC). Printed versions are available
in our Public
Resource Center.
