Guide to Records at the Seattle Municipal Archives
The Seattle Municipal Archives (SMA) holds over 10,000 cubic feet of records documenting the history, development, and activities of the agencies and elected officials of Seattle. Some of the research strengths of the holdings include parks, engineering, legislative activities, and urban planning. Descriptions of holdings at the collection level are accessible in two ways:
The Browseable Guide to the records at the SMA is arranged by the City agency that created them. This Guide contains descriptions of each record series with no links to folders within the collections. The Browseable Guide is helpful for an overall sense of SMA holdings or to see all records held in the Archives created by a specific department.
This Guide is searchable by record creator or agency, description or key word, and subject. The search results provide a description of each record series with a link to a folder list, where one exists, within each collection. The Searchable Guide is useful for locating all collections that include materials on a specific subject, regardless of the agency that created them.
