Guide to the Archives of the City of Seattle Record Group 4100 The Office of International Affairs was created in 1986 as an office of the Executive Department. It represented the City's interest in international activities related to the Sister City program, protocol for visiting international dignitaries, international trade and tourism, and Seattle's Consular Corps. The office was incorporated into the Office of Intergovernmental Relations in 1992. 4102-01 The Citizens' Commission on Central America was established in 1983 as a result of the passage of Initiative 28. The Commission existed until November 1986 when passage of Initiative 30 required its dissolution. These files contain minutes of monthly meeting between March 1984 and November 1986. Also included are correspondence, memoranda, press clippings, and draft legislation. Subjects covered include "City of Refuge," the Seattle/Managua Sister City Program, Contra aid, and immigration reform. SMA 4102-02 Correspondence and testimony regarding Seattle City Council's consideration of the Sanctuary City resolution to provide have for refugees from Central America. The resolution passed in January 1986 declaring Seattle a city of refuge. It was repealed by voter Initiative 30 in November 1986. Records include some correspondence in Spanish. SMA |
