SPD and Parks &

East Duwamish Greenbelt, Autumn 2003
|
|
|
"The
Bunker" was a center of the criminal activity that came to dominate
the greenbelt through much of 2003. Built
with concrete blocks, framing, plywood, and hurricane fencing, it was
camouflaged and commanded a ledge. Inside, paraphernalia for cooking and shooting
smack. Outside, a killer view of the mouth of the Duwamish.
The
gang behind this takeover beat up most of the homeless people in the
area and threw them out. They monitored police and other public agency
activity, using cell phones for communication, and tracked City and
State workers who entered their "territory."
