Neighborhood News

Atlantic St. Public Stairway

Since January, the Atlantic St. public stairway off 15th Ave. S has friends. Cleanups are on the fourth Sunday every month.

On June 15, three neighbors cleared over 300 sq ft of blackberries from the lower stairs (at the bend downhill in the picture), improving visibility significantly. Work parties are announced on the BAN email list.

Summer Days Bring in the Barbecue!

Neighbors gathered at Dr. José Rizal Park on Saturday, July 12, to celebrate the summer. There was no shortage of good food, good laughs, or good conversation as folks came and went. The sun was bright, Seattle beautiful, a perfect spot to watch evening arrive.

Beacon Bluff

July 12, P-Patchers participated in one of four neighborhood volunteer events for the weekend, spreading mulch, removing weeds, and tidying up Beacon Bluff. Seattle Public Utilities picked up bags of green waste from last month's Community Service worker event.

July 12, Community Court Service Workers Gathered 21 Bags of Trash, 100 Beverage Containers, a Palette, and Sorted 6 Cubic Yards of Compostable Plant Cuttings for Pick Up

Dr. José Rizal Park

Saturday, July 12, four Community Court service workers and a crew lead sorted piles of collected debris, and removed 21 large bags of assorted refuse from abandoned encampment sites.

Monday, June 30, Parks representatives, a supervisor for Seattle Public Utilities, Steve Louis from DON, and neighbors met to make Dr. Jose Rizal Park safe again. Parks mowed a large part of the off-leash area, including the orchard.

The plan includes cleaning up the entrance to the OLA - selectively pruning trees, fixing a streetlight, improving views, fixing fences.

June 20, all along the upper park, EarthCorps, COLA, and Seattle Works came together to put peace in place, restoring a forest, reclaiming a park, saving a signature tree with hard work, a lot of sweat, and not a few sore muscles.

Lucille St. Public Stairways - Gateway to Georgetown

The Lucille public stairway that leads to Georgetown has been cleaned up by Seattle Public Utilities. It's part of the route taken by Beacon Hill firefighters for conditioning runs. On seeing its state - a lot of trash, drug paraphernalia, empty booze containers, graffiti - first responders responded first, making a way welcome.

Community Court Service Workers

We've been offered a second Community Court service day, with neighborhood support.

Service Workers are first-time misdemeanor, non-violent offenders. They make a difference on public stairways, in parks and greenbelts, around schools and homes.

If you would like a team to help out, get in touch.
